Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

[edit]
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: One user with an IP Address is making unnecessary changes, please check the article history for more details. I have checked it thoroughly & tried to discuss it with the user, however, it is useless. VKG1985 (Talk | E-Mail | Contrib) 13:10, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 16:57, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Persistent edit by sock, most likely WP:LOUTSOCK. Since behavioral evidence clearly shows that the main contributors to this article are just the sockpuppet and his socks. There’s no way a new IP editor would know about this draft and choose to make their first edit here. Ckfasdf (talk) 13:45, 21 September 2024 (UTC) }}

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – article has a recent history of disruption, appears to be the case again, article belongs in WP:GS/CASTE. Sir Calculus (talk) 13:56, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: These sock accounts—Jobayer Hossain Nejami, Md Mahdi Hasan MH, Farhad93, and the IP addresses 103.85.195.11, Arif2727, and 103.176.2.87—repeatedly engage in vandalism by removing well-referenced content.–𝐎𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐬 𝐀𝐥 𝐐𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢 ʕʘ̅͜ʘ̅ʔ 14:34, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Voting has concluded and currently the counting is in process. A number of edits without official data have been reverted. These contain speculative or unofficial information sourced from media outlets. Persistent edit-warring and disruptive editing is happening. Currently the article is in a semi-protected state. Increasing the level to Extended confirmed protection could significantly reduce disruptions and edit wars until the official results are declared and the winning candidate is sworn into office. QEnigma (talk) 14:59, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: The Transformers film articles suffer a high level of disruptive edits from anonymous IP editors, and several are already locked. This is just the beginning

I would appreciate if you could start by setting the page to protection level to require flagged edits and wait before setting the protection level higher (but if all anon IP editors have to be locked out because of the few disruptive ones then so be it). 109.77.195.4 (talk) 15:51, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 17:03, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
How many more times does this wandering anon ipv6 editor have to vandalize the page before it can get protection? -- 109.77.195.4 (talk) 17:05, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Ratnahastin (talk) 16:46, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Sensitive topic, very much in the news, has had a spate of incorrect / un-cited information being added and runs the risk of violating WP:NOTSCANDAL and/or WP:NOTNEWS. Smallangryplanet (talk) 17:06, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism from IPs. —Yahya (talkcontribs.) 17:44, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Already protected by administrator Discospinster. Favonian (talk) 18:48, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Persistent vandalism and/or disruptive editing ever since news broke of his departure from NCT (group) due to scandal. Was previously protected for the same reasons. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 18:22, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 18:39, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: it is a article about the dangers and effects of the misuse for dxm, people need to be aware and we dont need anyone editing it and putting in lies or just other unacceptable things. TheJodeciadams (talk) 18:50, 21 September 2024 (UTC)TheJodeciAdams

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. Airplaneman (talk) 18:56, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Persistent nuisance edits to the pronouns of the subject in violation of MOS:GENDERID. Jessamyn (my talk page) 19:00, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – High level of IP vandalism. Susbush (talk) 19:05, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Favonian (talk) 19:30, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Persistent addition of unsourced WP:OR - FlightTime Phone (open channel) 19:28, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism immediately following protection lapse. Nswix (talk) 19:48, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

I would like to introduce an exceptional editor and author with a amazing track record in editing and article creation. Created 182 articles, none of which have been deleted, with the majority focusing on BLPs. Nice editor, and it’s clear that he is one of the editors for whom this user right was created. GrabUp - Talk 17:07, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Done Those are nice, clean bios. Just stop naming non-notable siblings, please, Intruder007. Schwede66 19:42, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! About the siblings, I was just following the format of other articles, but I'll take it into account. Intruder007 (talk) 21:26, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

Of course, I am ashamed that I have not yet made 400, 300 or even 150 articles and most likely will never make that many. But I can say in my «defense» that more than half of them are rare goods, they are world premieres. Before that, there were no such articles in Wikipedias. And I had to create Wikidata for many of them, categories on Commons and start from scratch. It is important for me to make articles in the English Wikipedia, because this immediately promotes a new topic to the whole world. --- - Names·nik·tlk 16:15, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

Done Good work. Please have a look at MOS:SECTIONORDER. Schwede66 19:19, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks x2! Once again, please accept my deepest gratitude for such a quick decision. --- - Names·nik·tlk 22:25, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

A good editor with a solid history of article creation, having created 135 articles, with only one being PROD’d in 2014 and another AfD’d in 2018. The other three deletions, which were G6 and G8, are not particularly significant. Since 2018, none of their articles have been deleted. Their article creation primarily focuses on BLPs, demonstrating their knowledge of notability guidelines. I don’t believe they would abuse the right, and granting it would help reduce the backlog. GrabUp - Talk 05:32, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Done and thanks for your recent nominations, GrabUp. It's really helpful. – Joe (talk) 10:11, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

A good editor and content creator, they have created a total of 133 articles. One was deleted via G14 in 2022, and another was deleted via A3 back in 2014. Since then, they have created many BLPs and other topic articles, none of which have been deleted. I think they are good to go. GrabUp - Talk 16:44, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Not done. I think it's been some ten years User:Hansmuller, since we interacted on nl:Lise Meitner. It's nice to see you here. I see you've been blocked indefinitely in the Dutch Wikipedia for various conflicts in Wikipedia space unrelated to article content, but this did not impact my decision.
I've checked ~10 creations and have noted & tagged one major issue (an uncited short para in a BLP), and a few minor ones (formatting, which I've corrected). You tend to WP:OVERCITE (having 4-5 citations after a paragraph, for instance in Sol de Carvalho), which makes it more difficult to connect sources to specific content. It might be better to put additional citations in a Further reading section if there is unused information in them. I'm also a bit concerned with the Car speed and energy consumption AfD, which resulted in a redirect. Created end of December, it shows essay and textbook tendencies which I don't expect in articles from autopatrolled editors.
Overall, feel free to nominate yourself when you've created another 8-12 clean articles, as we're not far from the threshold. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 14:08, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

GnocchiFan has made 5,000+ edits this year alone including seven Good Articles. They make extensive use of WMF Library to improve sourcing and prose. I believe they are both an excellent editor and also communicator, evident at sensitive article topics at 1984 anti-Sikh riots and Gender and sexual minorities in the Ottoman Empire. In short, let's reduce NPP backlog by giving them auto-patrolled status. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 12:11, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

Also worth mentioning GnocchiFan created 84 non redirect articles. One article was deleted Sophie Ottaway 8-months ago. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 12:25, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

has created 36 articles, of which over 60 percent (!) are B-class or higher. This was requested and (rightfully) turned down last year, but they have created many more articles and there's no need to patrol. Charlotte (Queen of Heartstalk) 05:17, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

 Done —Femke 🐦 (talk) 08:37, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

I would like to introduce another editor with a strong history of editing and article creation. They have created 2,114 articles, including 2 GAs. Their creations include BLPs, which are essential for obtaining the AP flag. Only one of their articles was deleted in 2023 via AfD, and others are G6. Since then, no articles have been deleted. I believe it would be beneficial to grant them this right to help reduce the NPP backlog. GrabUp - Talk 13:27, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

I found out after nominating that they had previously been granted AP by MusikAnimal, but it was later revoked in 2022 by Primefac due to copyright violations. I am not withdrawing the nomination, as it was two years ago, and the issue may have been resolved, so let’s see if they can be trusted now. GrabUp - Talk 13:42, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Requesting access for updating census data of highly populated Indian villages in Kerala state and other human settlements on this planet in future. Pachu Kannan (talk) 10:12, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

I would like access to AWB to fix CheckWiki issues more efficiently than I currently do using WPCleaner. I also want to streamline typo fixing as part of WP:TYPO. I understand I have been denied it twice in the recent past, but I strongly believe that I am fit for getting the permission now, as I gained significantly more experience and done more constructive edits. I would like to use AWB's Checkwiki functionality to alter position of references with respect to punctuation and incorrect ISBNs as I am frequently revising pages that need reference issue support; use find and replace for music album title issues; and use AWB for assistance on creating and correcting items and links within categories of music genres, domestic flag information, and public parks. Thank you. Shotgunheist💬 19:49, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Improve articles' layouts, correcting Spanish settlement infoboxes, changing IPA-va (depricated) to IPA|ca-valencia, adding IPA, correcting links, etc. I had AWB rights in the past, however I stopped using Wikipedia due to COVID-19. Now I am fully recovered and would like to carry on improving things here and there. Thank you. Nuvolet (talk) 20:23, 11 September 2024 (UTC) Nuvolet (talk) 20:23, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to request for NPP rights to help reduce the huge backlog of NPP reviewers. I have familiarized myself with the prerequisite required for this permission. I started to help out in draftspace of my interest, and noticed that there are quite of huge backlog that are pending review, in which only NPP reviewers are allowed to accept/reject it, I believed with my knowledge, I can volunteer to reduce it. Thank you for considering me. 98𝚃𝙸𝙶𝙴𝚁𝙸𝚄𝚂 [𝚃𝙰𝙻𝙺] 07:36, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

@98Tigerius: It sounds like want to review drafts submitted to articles for creation? For that, you should request access at WP:AFC/P. This right is for new page patrolling. We usually like to see some previous experience at AfC and/or AfD before granting this right. – Joe (talk) 10:14, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

I occasionally rename new articles to fix poor titles. I also sometimes want to move new articles to draftspace. Generally, neither case needs a redirect for the old title. — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 11:23, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I'm requesting the page mover permission to help deal with the backlog on Wikipedia:Requested moves, particularly the technical moves but also the requested moves with clear consensus. I have been participating in such discussions with some frequency for a while now, also suggesting the move of some pages myself (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc., all of them moved), and I believe my participation with this permission would be beneficial to the project, especially regarding the backlog, as previously mentioned. Sometimes I try to close obvious consensus, but without being a page mover, I cannot do so and have to rely on a page mover (e.g., 1, 2, 3). I have read the policy and, for what it's worth, I always adopt the maxim "if I am not sure, I won't do it" in my edits. Hi, as part of working at AfC I come across submissions on editors main userpage or sandbox that need to be cleanly moved to draft (i.e. without leaving a redirect). I stopped moving such submissions years ago as if the editor starts another article I was then the creator rather the actual creator which never seemed right to me. It would also be useful for when new editors create/move drafts to the Wikipedia or Template namespaces either in error or attempting to promote/spam. I have reviewed the criteria for receiving this permission, and feel my contribution history demonstrates an adequate knowledge of creating, expanding, and patrolling articles in accordance to Wikipedia policies. Tvfunhouse (talk) 00:54, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello hello, I have been a Wikipedian for well over 4 months now, and I feel that I have learned a great many things about the site in terms of editing, content, policies, and conduct that I could have never imagined beforehand. If given this right, I humbly commit to using it to the utmost competent and fair / legitimate nature that I possibly can. Thank you Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:52, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I have been contributing to pages for three years now, with prior experience in patrolling edit filter log. I would like to get reviewer rights so I can contribute to Wikipedia in more ways than I am able to, presently, and help with the backlog. Since my last request in July, I've been making a track record of communicating collegially with other editors, in my talk page and elsewhere. I hope you'll consider me. Thank you. — ‎‎‎hhypeboyh 💬✏️ 23:11, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I have 16 months experience in editing Wikipedia. I wish to contribute whole lot of my time for betterment of Wikipedia and reduce the backlog in all possible ways that I can. As an initial step towards it, I am applying for granting this user right, so I can use it to improve pages in Wikipedia. Thank You! Mischellemougly (talk) 09:15, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

Not done: user blocked. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 06:51, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

I have been reviewing and fixing bare URLs for the past year and I would like to try something different. I'd like to get reviewer rights to be able to start reviewing from a different angle. Rofraja (talk) 19:15, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

I'm an experienced user, and would like to help out at pending changes. I know the backlog is small, but I see no reason why I can't spend a bit of time to make it smaller. I have experience in anti-vandalism, and already some *limited* experience reviewing changes at Wikibooks, where I hold the reviewer right (although I am not super active there). Requests for rollback

Rollback

[edit]
I would like access to rollback for more efficiently combating vandalism. I have gained experience in patrolling RecentChanges. I also make sure to always warn (and welcome new users) after reverting their edits on their talk page. I declare that I have read through all the policies regarding vandalism. "Do you want to take a survey?"

    [edit]

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.

Up to Dec 16, 2003, all the edits at these anonymous id's were mine (59 edits):

More recently 1,250 or so edits on 75.41.110.200 are apparently all mine. Apparently my new ID is 75.41.109.190. There are undoubtedly many others as the earliest history of many articles was not preserved by the software.
